After being invited to judge the Crib Festival competition at Church of Ascension in Wall Heath, Mike has chosen a winner, runner up and ‘best picture’ entry.
Mike selected from an array of creative and thoughtful designs made by local children.
The overall winning crib display was put together by Amy Stokes (age 7), with the runner-up title going to Kayla Barker, and ‘best picture’ going to Yavanna Touw.
Amy’s winning crib was made from repurposed household items, showing a traditional nativity scene including Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the three wisemen, angels, sheep and a shepherd to look after the sheep.
Mike said:
“It’s always an honour to judge the annual competitions here at Church of the Ascension in Wall Heath.
“I was impressed by the imaginative displays at the Crib Festival; the entries were very thoughtful, making it difficult for me to choose an overall winner, but Amy’s traditional nativity scene really caught my eye.”
Christine Knight, Licensed Lay Minister at the church, said:
“The success of the festival was down to the cooperation of both the congregation loaning their cribs and the community coming in and taking part.
“We would also like to give a big thank you to Church of the Ascension Primary School for bringing the children over to sing for the community on the morning. It was a fantastic day.”
