As the local Member of Parliament, Mike visited the Nationwide Building Society branch in Merry Hill to celebrate 50 years of the local Brierley Hill branch.
During the visit, Mike met the branch team and branch manager Katrina Green to discuss the importance of face-to-face financial services.
The building society has reiterated its promise that everywhere it has a branch, it will still be there until at least 2026 – a commitment welcomed by the Mike.
Mike also talked to the team about how branches help customers through the cost-of-living crisis and how Britain’s biggest building society helps support first time homebuyers.
He also heard about the way Nationwide is tackling scams and fraud, both in branch and remotely via the building society’s Scam Checker Service.
Customers can walk into their local building society branch and speak directly to the team or phone a free 24/7 hotline at 0800 030 40 57 to check payments they’re worried about with specially trained expert staff. If Nationwide gets it wrong, the building society will fully refund the amount lost.
Mike said:
“Our local building societies and banks offer essential services to local people, and I am really pleased that Nationwide have extended their commitment to their branches until at least 2026.
“It was great to meet staff working at the Merry Hill Nationwide branch and mark their 50th anniversary in Brierley Hill.”
Katrina Green, Branch Manager, said:
“We were honoured to welcome Mike Wood MP to our branch in Merry Hill today. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase how we’re committed to serving this area and communities across Britain. After all, Nationwide has been in Brierley Hill for 50 years now.”
“A local branch is more than just access to essential banking services, it’s a cornerstone of a thriving community. Our research shows how important branches are, especially for people struggling with the cost of living. We’re glad to still have a strong presence in communities around Britain – we’re here to help.”
