Dudley South MP Mike Wood has joined pupils, staff and parents at Bromley Pensnett Primary School to celebrate the school’s recent Ofsted success.
Mr Wood has been a regular visitor to Bromley Pensnett in recent years, taking a keen interest in the school’s efforts to raise aspirations and their curriculum enrichment work.
Pupils enjoyed talking to their local MP, sharing with him examples of their work from across the curriculum.
The school was inspected in December with the subsequent report being published in February. Ofsted judged the school to be ‘Good’ in all areas.
Mike Wood said:
“I always love visiting Bromley Pensnett because there is always so much going on to try and enhance the learning experience of the children here.
“All the staff, students and parents have worked so hard to achieve this new Ofsted rating and it’s been great to come along to celebrate with them today. They should all be incredibly proud of this achievement.”
Mr Justin Gray, head teacher, said:
“It is a privilege to serve the Bromley Pensnett community. Our families are enormously supportive of the school and it is that partnership between the school and the families which enables our pupils to thrive.
“The findings of the recent Ofsted inspection reflect the hard work and dedication of the staff and, of course, our wonderful children.
"We must also pay tribute to the excellent support and challenge that comes from being a member of the drb Ignite Trust. The quality of the collaborative work across the drb Trust is reflected in the success we enjoy."
Mr Gray added:
“We have invested a great deal in our reading curriculum in recent years, focusing particularly on the teaching of phonics. We now have a very highly skilled team of reading teachers across the school, which has contributed to the significant and sustained improvement to the overall quality of education that we provide at Bromley Pensnett.”
The report also noted that a love of reading is encouraged from the outset, reflecting the extensive work that has gone into the school’s reading offer over the last few years.
Miss Eleanor Asprey, who began her teaching career at Bromley Pensnett 18 months ago, said:
“I am extremely appreciative of the support that I have received from members of staff and from the parents and families. It is a pleasure to come to work every day and be surrounded by such amazing children.”
In particular, the report highlighted the strengths of Bromley Pensnett’s broad and ambitious curriculum and the extent to which staff focus on ensuring that the school is a highly inclusive environment with extended provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Year 5 pupil, Druvi, commented:
“All of the teachers are really nice at our school and I love the practical lessons that we get to do often. My favourite subjects are art and design technology.”
